This is a great trip if you're still relatively new to packrafting and want to develop your skills on Class II+ whitewater in a supportive environment.  


Rough Schedule/Timings:

Day 1

9am: Meet Hokitika Gorge Car Park. Consolidate vehicles and shuttle to Whitcombe Valley Track Carpark

10:00am: Check essentials are packed and start hiking up the Hokitika Valley

~12:30-1pm: Arrive at Rapid Creek Hut, have lunch, leave overnight gear

2pm: Head a little further up the valley

3pm: Inflate boats float back to hut, practice river-reading skills 

5pm: Off water

6pm: Dinner 


Day 2

8am: Breakfast

9am: Pack bags and head up to Whitcombe confluence

10:30am: Inflate boats and head downstream practising river-reading, eddy-hopping and group management.

12pm: Lunch on the river

1pm: Continue downstream enjoying the beautiful and world-famous Hokitika Gorge

~3pm: Off river, shuttle if needed and debrief/farewell


What's Included

Small ratios with an experienced guide familiar with the river.  Optional coaching if there are skills you would like to work on.  Discuss this with your guide.


Optionally Included

Packrafting equipment @$50/per person per day

Food...due to different taste and weight preferences we're encouraging people to bring their own food, but can help supply food if needed and will bring some treats!

What to bring

A full packing list will be sent out to people booked on the course but make sure you have the following:

Packraft + Paddle

Whitewater PFD

Whitewater Helmet

Throwbag

Appropriate footwear

Wetsuit or Drysuit 

Camp clothes and warm/dry layers

Sleeping Bag, shelter and sleeping pad* (it's only a 4 bunk hut!)

Waterbottle and food for the trip

Stove (can be organised to share)

A good attitude!

* you can always use your packraft floor as a sleeping pad if you're comfortable like this
